14.1 inch Binai G14 Plus Laptop With Intel Atom x5-E8000 CPU

Introducing the low-cost 14.1-inch notebook “Binai G14 Plus” from the Chinese manufacturer “Binai”. Online Store sites are handled by Banggood and geekbuying, so I don’t think they are particularly suspicious.

The CPU used in this product is Atom X5-E8000, which is considered as “Atom for embedded devices”. However, recently I often see Chinese notebooks equipped with CPUs for embedded devices, and I’m also reviewing the actual product of “CHUWI HeroBook” on Priceboon. Both Binai G14 Plus and CHUWI HeroBook are super cheap PCs that can be purchased for $199.99 (HeroBook, the price may be reduced to $199.99 or so at the time of sale). In this article, I will explain in comparison with the HeroBook that has been reviewed on the actual machine.

CPU performance is clearly unsatisfactory for a 2020 Windows PC. There is no problem with basic Windows operations, Office applications, Web browsing, etc., but if you are using a machine equipped with a Core i processor, you will feel smooth, and it will be a bit sluggish compared to a machine equipped with Celeron Is felt. Although it is absolutely necessary to evaluate it in terms of price, it seems that it is better to use a notebook PC such as “machine for text input” or “for Web browsing”, to some extent.

RAM is 4GB and storage is 64GB eMMC + 128GB SSD. RAM is large enough to operate Windows without any stress, and storage is large for the price.

For the past two years or so, more and more Chinese laptops have M.2 slots on the bottom for storage expansion. The Binai G14 Plus has an M.2 slot on the bottom as well. The “128GB SSD” in the specification table is assumed to be installed in the M.2 slot on the bottom. And this is Wintab’s guess, but the OS is probably installed on 64GB eMMC.

The display is a 14.1-inch IPS liquid crystal, and the resolution is HD (1,366 x 768). Recently, there are many low-priced Chinese notebooks with FHD resolution, so the specifications may be a little unsatisfactory. However, a 14-inch HD resolution PC is not particularly unusual, and the screen is not extremely rough.

Compared to the CHUWI HeroBook, there is a difference in that the display resolution is inferior (HeroBook has FHD resolution) and instead it has a 128GB SSD (HeroBook has only 64GB eMMC), but otherwise it is “equal”.

Although the input and output ports are not enough, the configuration is considered to be the minimum necessary, with two full-size (Type-A) USB ports, miniHDMI and microSD card reader. By the way, HeroBook has almost the same configuration, but USB is 3.0 × 2.

Let’s compare the size with HeroBook.

Binai: 330 x 230 x 14 mm / 1.47 kg
HeroBook: 332 x 214 x 21.3 mm / 1,369 g

Neither of these is particularly small for the latest 14-inch notebooks in vertical or horizontal size. It may be rather large. However, I think that the Binai G14 Plus is doing quite well in terms of thickness. The 14mm is not only in the spec table displayed by Banggood, but also in the PR image that seems to have been made by the manufacturer.

This image is probably populated (meaning that the housing design has been imaged so that it looks good). The actual bezel width should be thicker than this. However, since the manufacturer says “bezel width 7mm”, you may trust this number. It’s a low-priced note, so don’t expect too much of a bezel width or design.

It is a top plate. The housing material is likely to be plastic, but it is 14 mm thick, so it may be an aluminum alloy. By the way, HeroBook was a plastic case. Also, what is a little worrisome for a Chinese manufacturer who is not familiar with is the “top plate logo design”, but in this case it’s relatively decent.

It is a keyboard. Although there is a line to the right of the Enter key, many Chinese notebooks in recent years have this type of array, and HeroBook is also this type.

The layout of the side and input / output ports. As I wrote above, the number of ports is not enough, but the USB ports are allocated to the left and right, so it seems easy to use.
