The young manufacturer UHANS continues to expand its model range with the UHANS K01. Here we have to do with a real outdoor smartphone, which it also externally gladly shows. The special feature of the K01 is its IP68 certification, the right performance.
The MT6753 was built with 3GB RAM and 32GB memory. The display is a 5-inch HD panel . In the case of outdoor smartphones, you can generally put more money on the table than with comparable smartphones. This is the key point in the UHANS K01, because the price is not yet known.
The model will be presented at the Asia World Expo on 18-21 October. The K01 will be the first model of the “King Kong” series, which will include several outdoor smartphones. The promo pictures, in the Battlefield style, however, are thematically unsuitable!
Design
The UHANS K01 presents itself in the current style of the outdoor smartphones: it has a robust design due to the housing and the color accents. The back is slightly ribbed for better grip and the curves look as if they give a better grip around the smartphone. The frame, on the other hand, is made of metal. The contrast color is reserved with the UHANS K01, only accents around the display and the curves at the back. Yellow and orange are available to choose from – these colors are mostly found in the outdoor team.
On the front you will find the three typical Android buttons as softbuttons under the display. On the back is the fingerprint sensor and above it the single camera sensor. The design is by and large class-typical for an outdoor smartphone! The UHANS K01 does not break a design line, but it does not exaggerate with the outdoor look.
Of course, you have to stir the advertising drum properly for an outdoor smartphone, as far as the durability of the UHANS K01 is concerned. It has been certified with IP68: it can drop completely from 1.5m without damage, has maximum protection from dust and can survive for an hour in 5m water depth.
Display
The installed display measures 5 inches in the diagonal and resolves with 1280 × 720 pixels, resulting in 294 PPI. For an outdoor smartphone, this is perfectly fine: the PPI is only just below the retina value of 300PPI, and the low resolution helps save power. Furthermore, the UHANS K01 comes with gorilla glass on the front to protect it from external influences.
The 5 inches should not deter. In the meantime, you have become much more accustomed to the beautifully large 5.5 inch FullHD displays. For an outdoor smartphone the 5 inch but more suitable, so it becomes more handy, more streamlined and can be easily operated with one hand.
Power
The already tuned performance comes from an aging MediaTek MT6753 octa core processor. In this, eight cores operate at 1.3 GHz. This is supported by the Mali T720MP GPU as well as sufficient 3GB memory.
The MT6753 is one of the older models. This is still manufactured in the 28nm process, but has all the necessary equipment features of modern smartphones. Check out our test for Vernee Thor E , this comes with about the same hardware. The first outdoor phone from UHANS also offers 32GB memory and a modern Android 7.0 system.
The performance is an argument for the UHANS K01. In the beginning, it reads enough dimensions for an outdoor smartphone: on the road I do not have to gamble the latest 3D games, but I do not want to annoy them, even if my smartphone commands tough. We think the UHANS K01 is a good compromise – as long as it can prove the performance in the test.
Camera
Only one sensor on the back! The UHANS K01 uses as a main sensor a single 13MP sensor from the house Sony. On the front, the sensor from Sony comes with only 5MP. Which parts are exactly used unfortunately is not yet known. The name “Sony Exmor RS” is called among others. We hope that the camera sensors can convince so far, since photos and videos are nevertheless one of the most important tasks “Outdoor”.
Connectivity
The connectivity of the UHANS K01 has not yet been mentioned. We assume that the smartphone has installed all major networks. Our outdoor smartphones were able to score especially with far reaching reception. We hope that this will be the case with the UHANS K01. For navigation GPS, A-GPS and GLONASS on board. Wifi, Bluetooth & sensors are not yet known: we assume that all necessary standards are available, but also no more. Most importantly, the UHANS K01 has a stable reception and the positioning is reliable. A compass could not hurt either.
Battery life of the UHAN K01
The UHANS K01 is equipped with a large 5000 mAH battery. This should provide enough juice for two days of intensive use. In our test, Vernee Thor E not only the hardware with the K01, but also the Akku. This proved to be a safe and stable runner for 2 days. In the Battery Mark Work 2.0 benchmark it cracked the 11 hour mark. Similar values are also expected in the UHANS K01. The outdoor mobile is charged with 5V/2A, which should fill the battery in two or two and a half hours.
