MINIXPC Coupon: SER520 Price: $379.99
No miracle or revolution, the Beelink SER5 uses the same recipe as its predecessors. We find a very compact case of 12.6 cm wide by 11.3 cm deep and 4.2 cm thick with a very open shell to let large air flows.
The difference with the previous models is in the change of embedded chip. The SER3 was launched under Ryzen 3750H before being completed by a Ryzen 3200U model. The SER4 uses Ryzen 4700U and 4800U chips. The new Beelink SER5 offers a Ryzen 5 5600U with the same equipment as its predecessors.
The Ryzen 5 5600U is a six-core, twelve-threaded chip running at a maximum frequency of 4.0 Ghz and featuring a Radeon Vega 7 graphics chip. A very powerful chip capable of handling many tasks with great graphics capabilities for creative uses or even gaming. The MiniPC will not replace a professional PC or a gamer machine, but it will position itself convincingly for on-the-go video editing and photo editing as well as for 720P gaming.
It will be distributed in different memory and storage options as is the rule with this brand. For now, a single version is listed on Minixpc store. A 16GB DDR4 model combined with a 500GB NVMe PCIe SSD in M.2 2280 format. It is offered at $379.99.
The brand indicates excellent performance both in terms of temperature and noise. Work sessions with Adobe Photoshop do not exceed 30 dB while using Microsoft Office leaves the machine at 26 dB with the ear stuck at 20 cm from the machine.
The Beelink SER5 remains upgradeable with its two SoDIMM memory slots it will be able to upgrade to 64GB of RAM in dual channel. Its NVMe storage is accessible and a 2.5″ slot in SATA III format is also present. The brand highlights the presence of a thermal barrier around the 2.5″ slot that would lower the overall temperature of the machine.
For the rest, the recipe is unchanged, the Beelink SER5 employs the same chassis and therefore the same connectivity. So we find in front two USB 3.0 ports and a USB Type-C offering data and DisplayPort. An audio combo jack and the start button of the device. On the back, there are two USB ports, one of which is USB 2.0 and a third USB 3.0. A Gigabit Ethernet port, two HDMI outputs and a 19V / 3A external power jack complete the equipment.
The solution offers a Wi-Fi6E module and Bluetooth 5.2 from now on… Which may be a theoretical advantage but should come up against a basic technical concern. Having tested the change of Wi-Fi card on the SER3 from a Wi-Fi5 module to a Wi-Fi6, the result was the same. The reason being most likely the use of internal antennas glued under the high plastic strip on the front of the device. If the brand has not changed its device, it should therefore have the same results. To enjoy a better throughput, you would have to use external antennas on this machine.
The whole thing comes with Windows 11 and features automatic boot after a power failure and remote boot via Ethernet. The MiniPC comes with a VESA bracket to easily mount it behind a screen but also with 2 HDMI cables of two different sizes depending on whether you use the device on the back of the screen or on your desk.
I think this new Beelink SER5 will probably be an excellent MiniPC. The current price may be the most suitable, the famous mall MINIXPC provides you with a coupon of 20 dollars, use coupon: SER520, you can get it for $379.99.
