Rownd 5X: True 5-Axis CNC Milling, Reimagined for the Desktop

With a 2.2 kW spindle, ISO20 10-tool automatic tool changer, and an intuitive touchscreen workflow, the Rownd 5X brings professional 5-axis capability to engineers, makers, educators, and small workshops—without taking over the shop.

Rownd Precision has introduced the Rownd 5X, a compact desktop 5-axis CNC milling machine designed to make advanced machining more accessible. Combining a large work envelope, high precision, and a streamlined workflow, the Rownd 5X targets users who need professional results for prototypes and small-batch production—from engineering teams and product developers to makers, educators, and small workshops.

Compact Size. Serious 5-Axis Capability

The Rownd 5X is built around a simple promise: true 5-axis motion in a desktop footprint. By moving the workpiece across five axes, the machine allows users to machine complex geometries from multiple angles with less manual repositioning. The result is a smoother workflow and more refined surface finishes, especially for parts with compound angles, organic curves, or features that would otherwise require multiple setups.

True 5-Axis Motion

The Rownd 5X supports simultaneous 5-axis machining, along with 3+2 indexed and standard 3-axis modes. Its rotary axes provide −45° to +90° A-axis travel and full 360° C-axis rotation. In 5-axis mode, the workpiece capacity is Ø200 × 180 mm. In 3-axis mode, the work envelope expands to 265 × 240 × 180 mm—a serious amount of usable capacity for a machine of this size.

Automatic Tool Changer

The ISO20 automatic tool changer holds up to 10 tools and keeps them ready during operation. That reduces manual interruptions and helps users move through multi-step machining processes more efficiently. Tool cooling is handled by a mist cooling system, while the 2.2 kW water-cooled spindle reaches speeds up to 24,000 rpm.

Smart Setup

A 13.3-inch touchscreen interface makes setup, monitoring, and control easier to manage. The goal is to reduce the friction that often comes with precision machining, helping users approach complex jobs with more clarity and confidence.

Built for Precision

Under the enclosure, the Rownd 5X uses a single-piece aluminum chassis, zero-backlash linear guides, and ground ball screws. Rownd Precision rates positioning repeatability at ±0.02 mm, a level of accuracy intended to meet the demands of industries such as aerospace, medical, and mold making. The machine runs on standard 110–220 V input with an estimated total power draw of 2.8 kW.

From CES Prototype to Kickstarter

The Rownd 5X first appeared as a prototype at CES 2025 in Las Vegas, where it drew significant attention. According to Rownd Precision, 80% of the customer leads collected at the show were directed specifically to the 5-axis mill prototype, prompting distributor discussions for European and US markets.

The company previously raised $600,000 on Kickstarter for its Rownd Desktop CNC Lathe in 2023, with 123 orders, and has received early-stage backing from APY Ventures and KWORKS.

About Rownd Precision

Founded in 2021 and headquartered in Bursa, Turkey, Rownd Precision develops compact desktop manufacturing tools. The company’s first product, the Rownd Desktop CNC Lathe, was successfully funded on Kickstarter and has since been commercialized. Rownd Precision plans to release at least one new desktop manufacturing device annually, with CES as a key platform for prototype debuts.

For engineers, makers, educators, and small workshops, the Rownd 5X represents a different kind of desktop CNC: compact enough to fit the bench, capable enough to take on real 5-axis work.
