When I chose the first drone that would allow me to enter the world of traveling in the sky, I was guided by price and quality. The ideal solution was a Syma W1 PRO drone. In the box I found of course: drone, battery, propeller covers, spare propellers, smartphone holder, charger and user manual. Drone made properly, holding it in your hand you can feel that it is not a plastic toy but something more. All you need to do is download the smartphone app and you’re ready to go! The simple and readable application makes it easy to use, so even a layman like me can manage without problems.
The drone is equipped with a barometer, thanks to which we can hover in the air, just release the controller knob and the drone will maintain a constant height without the need for control (I tested it on a gentle wind and the drone was fine).
Thanks to the built-in GPS system we do not have to worry that we will lose the drone and with one click on the screen of the smartphone the drone flies to the place indicated by us.
Novice mode allows you to create a virtual barrier for which a drone will not fly – it is worth using it when you are not yet fully controlling the flight.
Another interesting and useful function is to return home – as soon as we lose the drone from our sight, click the icon in the application and the drone actually returns to the starting point, maybe not perfectly to 1 cm, but within 1-2 m. Controlling a drone is quite simple, we can fly in all directions. The more time we spend flying a drone, the more we are aware of what we are doing.
The big plus is that Syma W1 Pro features brushless motors that are much less prone to damage than brush motors. No more frequent replacement of motors. The drone has been equipped with as many as two cameras: the front one that records images in 4K quality (according to the manufacturer) and the lower one that allows to obtain 720p quality.
However, after testing the drone I find that the manufacturer has not fully specified the term 4K – in this quality we will take pictures (attached’ visible clearance at the top of the picture is the effect of reflection of strong sunlight from the propellers – it is not a defect of the camera!), while the video will be shot up to Full HD 1080P.
The recordings during the flight show delicate shocks caused by the wind, but at this price it is very acceptable. In this model, the manufacturer has improved the length of work on one charge. I read that earlier it was about 8-10 minutes and now it declares even up to 18 minutes, which in practice, taking into account recording and wind resistance, gives us about 15 minutes of flight.
To sum up, the Syma W1 Pro drone is the equivalent of a lower shelf Spark and is ideal for beginners.
