Although it shares some specifications with the previous generation, the new features of the new model make it worth renewing, this time we found the 4K native versus the interpolated 4k, a rather remarkable quality improvement. If you did not buy the T5e and are looking for an affordable sports camera with high-end features at a mid-range price, the ThiEye T5 Edge is a great candidate.
It is true that the image quality can not be compared with cameras with much higher price ranges such as the GoPro Hero 6, the Xiaomi Yi 4k or other Sony cameras such as the FDR-X1000VR. But the price-quality ratio of this camera is perfect for those who begin in sports photography or adventure.
What stands out from the list is the native 4K at 30 fps, a feature that sets it apart from the most economical sports cameras with interpolated 4K. Its sensor of 14 megapixels is sufficient for the use that is given to this type of cameras.
The screen is perhaps its weak point, it would have been a success to place a touch screen. The resolution is 320 × 240 with a size of 2 inches, an IPS screen.
The objective of this sports camera is 170º, a wide angle of 17mm.
The battery is 1100mAh, a figure already standard in Asian cameras, at least of which I have been able to test so far. It is a good idea to buy some extra batteries if you are going to use them continuously, they are small and cheap so it is advisable to have batteries to spare.
The accessories and connectivity is another of its strengths, since compared to high-end cameras like the GoPro or Xiaomi Yi, it brings accessories that would be an important investment separately. The control for remote control and voice control, is adjusted to the wrist to access the quick functions without having to remove the camera from its support or go find it.
The image stabilizer is from my point of view the most important feature, even more than the 4k. In this video you can see how the stabilization has improved compared to the previous T5E and how well its new GYRO stabilizer works.
When it comes to recording videos or taking pictures, the T5 Edge allows us to vary the resolution, although it is a function that I do not usually use, if you find that you do not have enough space on the memory card, you will appreciate it.
