A lot of people have been waiting for this. After several Full HD projectors, Xiaomi has now introduced the first 4K projector. This is again a so-called short-distance beamer that uses laser technology to project an image of up to 150 inches onto the wall. Already in Full HD this looked damn good, a 150 inch projection in 4K should probably put everything seen so far in the shade.
Just a few weeks ago, Xiaomi introduced the Youth Edition of the Mijia Projector, a low-priced beamer. Now, quite surprisingly, a new announcement follows, which goes in a completely different direction. The new beamer will be the most expensive, but also the best model of the company so far and will support native 4K as maximum resolution.
The Mijia MJGTYDS01FM Laser Projector 4K uses the same MIUI TV system as millet TV, which includes a large number of film and television resources, has convenient operation experience, and also carries XiaoAi, through voice buttons on the remote control to wake up, quickly help you complete the search of films, fast forward and fast backward, control other millet intelligent devices in the home and other operations. It also supports dual-band WIFI with abundant backside interfaces. It is equipped with three HDMI 2.1, USB 3.0, optical fiber, 3.5mm audio output, video input and network interface, which can meet all kinds of entertainment peripheral needs.
Apart from that it resembles the predecessor in large parts. The projection can be up to 150 inches in size, but the beamer is only a maximum of half a meter away from the wall and throws the image diagonally upwards. The beamer uses the ALPD 3.0 laser technology. Xiaomi speaks of a service life of 25,000 hours. The contrast is given with 3000:1, the brightness with 1500 ANSI lumens (or 5,000 lumens).
Xiaomi’s MIUI TV operating system will again be installed on the beamer. For the time being, however, this will probably be exclusively in Chinese again. But with the first Laser Projector it was possible to change the most important thing to English by installing a .apk. Meanwhile there is even an international version of the Laser Projector, which is delivered directly with English Android. It is still written in the stars, if there will be the same for the 4K-version sometime.
We also find the same connections here as with the Laser Projector. There are three HDMI inputs, two USB ports and one audio, S/PDIF and LAN port.
Just to be clear: This is not the externally similar WEMAX ONE beamer. It was released last year, also black and an upgrade to the first Laser Projector. However, this mainly shows a higher brightness. This 4K model now again adorns the Mi Home logo.
If one speaks of the “Mijia Projector” (without “laser”), one usually means the almost $600 expensive, smaller LED beamer, which also has Full HD resolution. The even cheaper Youth version was also introduced to this model.
This 4K short distance beamer is now at the top of the list. The resolution of 4K makes it unique so far.
The big question of course: What will the beamer cost and is worth the purchase for customers. The final price should be about $2000. But it is said that it will cost about $1500 in advance. Of course all prices are only valid for China and when shipping to Europe you will have to pay a bit more. Nevertheless: You won’t find a 4K short-distance beamer under $3000 otherwise.
The beamer cannot even be bought in China yet, the sale should start on January 15th. We are still waiting for the first online shops to list it in advance. But as good as the price is, we are here in price regions where one should really consider buying such a device three times. Would the beamer be worth $2000 to you?
