Limited Edition BMAX Y13 Power YUGA Laptop

After entry-level PCs, Chinese noname brands are interested in a “sufficient” PC concept for everyone. The BMAX Y13 Power Limited Edition YUGA Laptop won’t satisfy the most demanding but follows the formula of some family MiniPCs. An equipment adapted to the classic uses of everyone. This 13.3″ will be able to meet maybe 95% of the needs of a normal user.

Might as well start with its biggest flaw, at least for us as French users, it’s a Chinese PC and therefore equipped with a Qwerty keyboard and not Azerty as we practice in our country. Apart from this detail, the BMAX Y13 Power is a very interesting hybrid solution.

Lessons from the latest material developments in the market have been learned and the concept of the screen with thin borders has been retained. We find a display of 13.3″ rather airy with lateral borders of 5 mm for a screen / chassis ratio of 81.7%. The BMAX Y13 Power Limited Edition YUGA Laptop still offers a 1 megapixel webcam above the display and the IPS panel displays in FullHD. This makes it possible to build a 30 cm wide and 20.80 cm deep device. This is close to the size of 11 or 12″ machines with wide screen borders.

The panel is also touch-sensitive with 10 contact points, which is due to the use of a flexible hinge that allows the screen and keyboard to be folded back to back to use the BMAX Y13 Power as a 13.3″ touchpad. One will also be able to exploit the other positions democratized by the YOGA of Lenovo: Tent mode to put the machine upright with the screen in front of you or portrait mode to have only the screen visible and the keyboard as a support…

Inside the machine, we find a very sober configuration but largely sufficient for a family use of a PC of this type. The embedded processor is an Intel Core M7-6Y75. A quadruple core clocked from 1.2 to 3.1 GHz and featuring an Intel UHD 515 graphics circuit. This 6-watt TDP chip is still quite relevant today. It will make you surf pleasantly, play any type of video locally or streaming even in UltraHD, retouch images, do office work, scan and print and even play games. The limitations of this type of chips are related to the heaviest uses. Don’t count on them to render video in UltraHD or play the latest 3D title. It is not intended for that. In fact, it costs only a fraction of the price of laptops designed for this purpose.

This Celeron is well supported here with 8 GB of RAM, this is often the defect of machines equipped with this type of chips. They are limited to 2 or 4 GB of memory, which has a definite impact on the overall possibilities of the machine. With 8 GB of RAM, the machine is more breathtaking and allows true multitasking on its FullHD screen. The storage is 256 GB in SSD which is sufficient for many uses. A MicroSDXC card reader is also included in the machine to extend its storage even if the use of an external solution via USB or network may make more sense quite quickly. The SSD is mounted on an M.2 slot to be able to upgrade it if the space becomes really complicated to manage… A hatch is available at the back of the machine to facilitate access to it.

For the rest it is a classic that seems to be well mastered. The keyboard is certainly in QWERTY but it is of the chiclet type and occupies almost all the available space. It is backlit with two levels of backlighting so that you can play the piano in dark environments. Above we discover the speakers of the device placed under the screen for a good stereo and underneath the wide and deep touchpad of the solution.

The Wifi is 802.11 AC type associated with a Bluetooth 5.0. The connection is unfortunately quite minimalist with two USB Type-C ports, a 3.5 mm jack port for headset and microphone, the memory card reader and a power input. Note that while the first USB Type-C port is indicated as only compatible with data transfer, the second is capable of all the functions of this type of port. This includes powering the machine, transferring a video signal, connecting to an Ethernet network and much more. It is on this port that it will be necessary for example to connect a USB HUB in sedentary mode in order to benefit from all its advantages.

The announced autonomy varies between 6 and 8 hours without specifying the type of use or even the capacity of the battery. This is another detail, along with the quality of the finish, that will have to be checked when you leave the machine. Because this could be a good or a less good surprise and qualify the machine for a semi-sedentary use or as a real laptop.
