PC monitors have become cheaper and cheaper in recent years and models with 4K resolution are now available for less than 200€. In the Full-HD league, Xiaomi has now introduced the Mi 1A PC monitor with 23.8 inch and nice thin edges around the panel for $199.99 on Banggood. Of course, you wouldn’t expect a lot of features at this price, but is this really necessary for a display? Would the Xiaomi Mi 1A even be worthwhile as an import?

The Redmi 1A monitor measures 538 x 418 x 180 millimeters at 4.2 kilograms. The panel measures 23.8 inches diagonally and has a 16:9 format. The resolution is Full HD / 1920 x 1080 pixels – 4K resolution can’t be expected at this price. However, it is pleasing that the display works with IPS. In the low price range you normally only find TN panels. The input lag is given with 6ms, the contrast is 1000:1 and for the brightness Xiaomi gives 250 cd/m². The IPS panel should have a viewing angle stability of 178 degrees. What Xiaomi cannot afford to miss at the moment: TÜV Rheinland certification for a particularly low blue light component.

So far, no special features, the Redmi 1A is a classic PC monitor. Things get more interesting when it comes to design. Like the Mi notebooks, the monitor is very unobtrusive and “clean” in design. The base is made of glossy plastic and the rest of matt black plastic. There are only two connectors on the stand: DC-IN power connector and HDMI port. The narrow edges are definitely a good thing if you plan to use multiple monitors. I’m currently on the road with two monitors, both of which have a 2cm wide frame – unfortunately, that’s not fancy.
