Last week we announced the first set-top box based on the new Amlogic S922X chip, the Beelink GT1-K, and here’s a second candidate, the TV Box Ugoos AM6, with even more possibilities. If the first one was passively cooled, then the new Ugoos will include a fan for cooling, providing optimal performance for the new Amlogic processor. As long as we don’t have any pictures of the case, Ugoos is sharing with us some board photos and specifications.
Like other boxes with Amlogic S922X, the Ugoos AM6 will run on Android 9.0. The company has neither a price nor a launch date, but for reference, the ODROID-N2 development board will start shipping tomorrow in limited quantities and will be sold for $63 with 2 GB of RAM (and without storage), while Beelink GT1-K is expected by mid-April, the price is not disclosed yet.
The manufacturer of Ugoos, as well as Beelink releases its top model with a processor, which includes 2 cores Cortex A53, four cores Cortex A73 and video processor Mali-G52 MP6. Currently available with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB of internal memory, but according to insider information, a more advanced version with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB RAM is expected in the near future.
The new TV box has dual-band Wi-Fi without external antennas and a gigabit Ethernet port. The device will be able to process an external sound source, for this purpose there is an AUX IN input. To work with OTG devices there is a high-speed USB 3.0 port. There are 2 USB ports v 2.0 for connection of peripheral components.
The UGOOS AM6 works with 4K format with a frequency of 75 Hz, supports joint management of CEC, HDCP and HDR. Wireless mice and other peripherals are easily synchronized via Bluetooth technology v 5.0. Multi-channel acoustics can be connected via S/PDIF cable, and work with analog stereo systems and headphones is possible via Jack 3.5 mm audio output. The device is controlled via the IR remote control. The manufacturer has declared support of modern codecs H.265, VP9 and AVS2.
The presence of active cooling, as previously stated, was not confirmed. The manufacturer decided to leave passive cooling with the help of a massive radiator and a metal case, which will ensure stable operation with resource-intensive applications.
