The Armor 6S – sounds like the name for a weapon, but is the name for a newly introduced smartphone from Ulefone. In the past, the Chinese manufacturer repeatedly drew attention to itself with extreme shapes. In April we reported Ulefone Power 6E, a power storage machine with an incredible 6350 mAh. On the IFA 2019 the Ulefone Armor 3W with MIL-STD-810G appeared. The Phablet is still missing any trace.

When reviewing other smartphones intended for outdoor use, there is often a lack of current technology. The Armor 6S has only the Helio P70 mid-range processor built in, but 6 GB RAM and 128 GB internal memory capacity (expandable to 256 GB via microSD card) are also available on current top models. Modernity is also created by the notch in the display. The display measures 6.2 inches and has a resolution of 2246 x 1080 pixels in Full HD+ and a pixel density of 402 ppi. The aspect ratio is 19:9 and the screen-to-body ratio, according to the manufacturer, is 91.8 percent.

The main camera consists of a dual system with 21 and 13 megapixels and has a dual flash module. The Selfie camera has a single sensor with 13 megapixels.

The battery is 5000 mAh strong and supports fast charging and wireless charging technology. The device can be unlocked by fingerprint and face recognition. Currently it looks like the Ulefone Armor 6S will be shipped with Android 9.0. Thanks to NFC, the outdoor mobile phone can also be used for contactless payment with Google Pay.

The data sheet provides an interesting basis. But what really matters with an outdoor smartphone is its robustness and durability against external influences. In addition to the well-known IP68 protection class, which protects against the penetration of water (30 minutes at a water depth of 1.5 meters) and dust, the Armor 6 IP69K uphone and the military standard MIL-STD-810G can take to the flag. According to the official description, the higher protection class IP69K certifies: “Protected against water during high-pressure/steam jet cleaning for road vehicles”. The military standard describes, for example, protection against environmental influences such as shocks, heat, cold, vibrations or sound waves. Ulefone states on its website, among other things, that the mobile phone can withstand up to 2 hours in a water depth of two meters. It should also be able to withstand temperatures from minus 40 degrees to plus 80 degrees.

A reinforced frame provides 360 degree protection. Photos and videos should also be taken under water. Instead of the current Gorilla Glass 6, the older Gorilla Glass 5 is used, which is supposed to provide scratch resistance.

The Ulefone Armor 6S will be available in red and black. However, red does not mean a complete wrapped body in the color, but only refers to the side edges, the frame of the main camera and the Ulefone lettering on the back of the case. Another device from a Chinese smartphone manufacturer is the Blackview BV9800 Pro.
